(Updated Friday at 9:30 a.m.) New Mexico State Police have identified the body found behind McDonalds Saturday (Oct.2) as that of Alan Heuer through dental records and fingerprints. The investigation remains active and ongoing, and the cause of death has not yet been determined.

On Saturday night (Oct. 2), New Mexico State Police said they were investigating the death of an unidentified individual whose body was discovered behind the McDonald's on Paseo del Pueblo Sur in Taos.

"The decedent has been taken to the Office of the Medical Investigator for an autopsy," said state police public information officer Mark Soriano in an email.

The New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau is currently working with the New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator to identify the body and determine the person's cause of death.

The investigation remains ongoing "as Investigations Bureau agents continue to gather any and all relevant evidence, interview, and information," added Soriano.

As of press time Wednesday, NMSP could not provide any additional details.
