Body of missing Peñasco man recovered

Uvaldo V. Lopez.

The Taos County Sheriff’s Office has found the body of missing Peñasco resident Uvaldo V. Lopez. Jr, who had been missing since Aug. 22 after his truck was located in the Llano San Juan Mountain Range.

According to a statement from the sheriff’s office, Lopez’s body was found in the evening hours on Tuesday (Sept. 7) in the Camino Real Ranger district of the Carson National Forest in “a remote area.”

The sheriff’s office and Lopez’s family had previously asked for help in locating him after the 46-year-old disappeared. Lopez was a member of Taos Ski Valley Inc, where he was lovingly referred to as “UV.”

The case remains under investigation, according to Taos County Undersheriff Steve Miera, and the cause of death is waiting to be determined by the Office of the Medical Investigator as of press time.

Lopez’s family has been notified. As of press time, no further details have been released.

This is a developing story.
