The Nusenda Foundation, associated with Nusenda Credit Union, announced Tuesday (June 14) that applicants across the state are now eligible to apply for their grant program which invests directly back into New Mexico organizations, including here in Taos.

The grant focuses on different areas to distribute funds which include education, healthcare, environment and wildlife, the arts and community service.

“Through making grants available to nonprofit organizations, Nusenda and our members are directly supporting important work throughout New Mexico and creating meaningful change,” said Eric Harrison, media relations officers for Nusenda.

In 2021, over 131 programs benefited from the grant totaling $580,000. Some organizations in Taos that were part of that initiative include the Taos Community Foundation and the Society of the Muse of the Southwest (SOMOS). This year Nusenda is encouraging more organizations in the Taos region to apply.

“Nusenda’s goal is always to provide grants in the area of greatest need for the organizations that apply. We hope to see new applicants each year, and are hoping to reach more communities as well as award even more grant dollars than we have in previous years,” Harrison said.

Sara Keller, Nusenda’s vice president of community engagement and executive director of Nusenda Foundation said in a press release the grants have helped organizations across the state flourish.

“Community Rewards grants support some of the most innovative and change-driving community organizations in our state,” Keller said. “The community partners we support through Community Rewards work to help New Mexicans thrive. We are excited to collaborate and power positive transformation in our communities.”

Organizations interested in applying must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit group and will have until Aug. 1, 2022 to submit their application. Funds will be distributed in December.
