How your government services are affected by coronavirus prevention measures

Representatives from the New Mexico Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) said they will expand the division's online services and continue to operate their offices on an appointment-only basis.

The MVD opened for in-person operations in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They also expanded their services online to curb the need for office visits. Customers are able to renew their driver’s licenses and vehicle registrations online, as well as update their addresses and insurance information, renew parking placards, pay citations and more.

Customers can also make citation payments and renew their vehicle registration at self-service kiosks at two locations in Albuquerque. More kiosks will be announced soon, said the MVD. Customers can also call their automated phone service at (888) 683-4636 for other limited services.

The MVD said that since implementing appointment-only visitation at their offices, customer wait times have significantly been cut down, with customers spending between 10 minutes and 30 minutes on the phone.

“Customers are finding that booking an appointment at our offices leads to much more efficient service than under the old walk-in model,” said Taxation and Revenue Secretary Stephanie Schardin Clarke in a press release. “Most offices have same-day availability, which means we can usually serve even those customers with last-minute needs.”

Customers can book an appointment at mvdonline.com, or can call (888) 683-4636.
