Rachel, a 5-year-old retriever, lab, terrier, pit bull mix, is sweet with people but sometimes doesn't get along with other dogs. The shelter is looking to find her a home with a confident handler who can improve her social skills.

The following is a weekly report for Stray Hearts Animal Shelter. 


Adoption: 8 cats, 3 dogs

Transfer out: 7 dogs

Return to owner: 3 dogs


Stray: 14 cats, 11 dogs


In house: 73 cats, 75 dogs

In foster: 46 cats, 18 dogs

Stray Hearts vaccine clinic for dogs and cats

When: Saturday (Oct. 2) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Where: 2558 Harvest Church, 2558 Highway 522, Questa

What: Drive thru clinic for FVRCP, Parvo/Distemper and rabies vaccines (microchips also available)

Cost: $10 each, cash only

Requirements: Cats must be in carriers and dogs must be on leashes; animals must all be at least eight months old

During the public health restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic, Stray Hearts is open for adoptions by appointment only from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. every day except Sunday and Wednesday. See the dogs and cats available for adoption online and call (575) 758-2981 to make an appointment. The shelter is always looking for good homes for dogs and cats and donations. Stray Hearts ReTails store and cat cafe, located at 1204 Paseo del Pueblo Norte in El Prado, is open 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Tuesday- Saturday. Masks required at both locations.
