Every year, the Taos News and its generous advertisers shine the light on the folks doing the good in our communities. This year’s smaller, socially-distanced ceremony was live streamed from Cooking Studio Taos, where nine Unsung Heroes and the Citizen of the Year were celebrated. Reverend Dr. Ted Wiard was named the 2020 Citizen of the Year. This year’s Unsung Heroes are:

Teacher, fabric artist and community activist Luzita Trujillo;

Historian and volunteer David Maes;

Fiesta Council treasurer and musician Kathleen Branchal-Garcia;

Former athletic director and teacher Nickie McCarty;

Pastors and spiritual leaders Gail and Peter Martínez;

Furniture maker and gallery owner David Mapes;

Social worker Florence Miera;

and baker Mary Romero.

This year's major sponsor of the event was the Taos Community Foundation. To find out more about each of the Unsung Heroes and the Citizen of the Year, pick up a copy of this week's Taos News and see the special Tradiciones sections inside.
