The New Mexico Department of Health announced 1,654 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday (Jan. 4), including eight new cases in Taos County.

The state also reported 31 additional deaths on Tuesday (23 recent deaths and eight additional deaths added from within the past 30 days), bringing the total since the start of the pandemic in New Mexico to 5,897. No new deaths were reported for Taos County, leaving the total at 73.

Total cases statewide now stand at 359,116 with 311,304 cases designated as having recovered by the New Mexico Department of Health. Currently, 493 individuals are hospitalized with COVID-19 in the state.
