The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a special weather statement for parts of New Mexico. The report of a cold Pacific storm system developing south over the Intermountain Region will drive a potent cold front into northwest New Mexico late tonight and the remainder of the area on Monday.
For this week, overnight temperatures are forecast to drop to single digits, dipping to 7 degrees Farenheit Monday and Tuesday nights (Dec. 4-5) at the Taos Regional Airport and 6 degrees Wednesday night. The highs during the day are forecast around 40 degrees.
Elderly people, homeless people, and animals left outdoors are particularly susceptible to frigid temps. Special care is advised.
