The Taos News has been named one of the "Newspapers of the Year" for 2013 by the Local Media Association.
Judged by industry experts, the award is bestowed annually on six daily newspapers and four weekly newspapers.
For the second consecutive year, The Taos News was awarded first place for non-daily newspapers with a circulation under 10,000.
Judges described the publication as "a fine newspaper in every way" and noted its "clean, creative broadsheet layout."
"I'm very pleased for our entire staff, but also our community, because a good newspaper reflects the community it serves," publisher Chris Baker said. "We've won numerous national and state awards over the years, but this one, being judged the best weekly newspaper with the prestigious Local Media Association, two years in row, ranks at the top."
"I can't say how proud I am of our entire staff and its non-stop endeavor to publish the best weekly newspaper in the United States," he added.
An announcement from the organization stated "these award-winning newspapers displayed top-notch editorial coverage, editorial design and prominent advertising layouts, exemplifying creativity and innovation in all areas of the newspaper."
The Local Media Association is a network of more than 2,000 daily and weekly suburban and community newspapers.
