Veterans and community members celebrated Saturday, Nov. 11, with the dedication of the Taos Pueblo Veterans Living Memorial.
Members of the pueblo welcomed the public to the dedication, a completion of over five years of work by Vietnam Veteran and Pueblo veteran advocate John Romero. Romero sought the funding and location and compiled the names of all veterans who have served from Taos Pueblo to be inscribed on stones in their honor.
Taos Pueblo Gov. Ruben A. Romero, War Chief Curtis Sandoval and other officials from the Pueblo spoke at the event of the importance of Veteran’s Day, not only for tribal members, but for all veterans across the nation. Romero, during his speech, affirmed that the memorial was also dedicated for those veterans who died in battle, never to return to their communities.
