Taos Mutt Strut to benefit Stray Hearts Animal Shelter

Today I am helping our animal shelter raise funds by promoting its fundraiser, the Taos Mutt Strut.

Today I am helping our animal shelter raise funds by promoting its fundraiser, the Taos Mutt Strut.

However, I do want to take a moment and thank all you dear and precious people who have continued to support my healing and for the donations made to Centinel Bank. I am doing very well. My arm is almost healed and the soft tissue damage will take longer to mend, but it will! I am getting around more for longer periods of time and nothing could be done without the help of my friends. Thank you, thank you!

OK then, now is the time to put paws to the ground! Bring your four-legged buddy and join the very first Taos Mutt Strut this weekend.

If you haven’t signed up for Stray Hearts Animal Shelter’s Mutt Strut please hurry and register to walk your dog or be a sponsor for someone who has a dog.

You can grab a relative’s dog, or a neighbor’s and you can also sponsor a dog from the animal shelter. How cool is that?

Pre-registration: $25 or $35 on the day of the strut.

The Taos Mutt Strut will be this coming Saturday (Sept. 21). Registration is 9 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church parking lot. Walk begins 9:45 a.m. at the church then continues across Camino de la Placita to Taos Plaza, ending at Kit Carson Park.

At the park awards will be given to the “top dog” who raised the most money for Stray Hearts. So get on it people! The shelter needs the funds and you can make it happen and have a heck of a good time, not too mention how much fun your canine baby will be having.

If you can’t do the walk, come to the park anyway. Starting 11 a.m. there will be more fun with demos and yes, more dogs!

The New Mexico Disc Dog Champions will be giving a demonstration at the park after the strut. If you have never experienced watching these champion dogs in action you are in for a real treat. They are awesome canine athletes.

Also, New Mexico’s official dog ambassador, the famous Bull Dog, Travelin’ Jack, will be there with Jill Lane, Jacks’ very proud owner/manager and public relations mentor. Jack will have a table of fun merchandise to take donations for Stray Hearts.

Travelin’ Jack is a celebrity who appears regularly on television and makes special appearances to help animal nonprofits raise funds. Jill has made sure Jack’s celebrity hasn’t gone to his head so Jack will not get “all Hollywood” even if he has mingled with the elite of New Mexico such as governors, radio and TV personalities on a regular basis.

Stray Hearts will not be at the Taos Farmers Market that day as they will have their regular adoptathon at Kit Carson Park after the strut ends.

To pre-register at the $25 rate, call the shelter (575) 758-2981 or email jan.gordon8@gmail.com

Mandatory requirements

We ask that you do not bring a dog that is dog or people aggressive or you will not be allowed to participate.

We do not allow any choke or prong collars — only slip collars and harnesses will be allowed.

We ask you use only a 6-foot long leash maximum — shorter is better. Non-retractable leashes are not allowed for safety reasons.

We encourage you to limit yourself to walking just one dog; however, you can bring as many dogs as you are comfortable walking. Walking more than one dog at a time requires the skill to keep them from becoming tangled. If you wish to bring more than one dog we encourage you to recruit friends and family to register and join you. You must pay the registration fee of $25 per dog.

Children 7 and under enter free and do not need to register, however everyone else must register for the walk. This is not a timed event and you can walk at your own pace. The event is designed to enjoy a leisurely stroll.

Thank you to the sponsors who made this event possible for our animals at Stray Hearts: 10,000 Wags, Taos Life Style and “Mattress Mary,” Blue Sky Pet and Seed Supply, Pueblo Balloon Company and the Taos Animal Control Advisory Board.

Want to make sure I thank Tom García at Taos Tack for the donations of pet food for the Taos Pet Pantry. Once again he helped feed our needy animals. Go into Taos Tack located in the Albertson’s Shopping Center, and thank them for their very needed contributions.
