The Taos Blizzard has struggled to add to its win column since its management stepped down and moved many of its top players. The team only managed to win one game last week, beating the last-place Ratón Osos once during a four-game series. The Blizzard also lost the first two games of its series against Las Vegas and were shut out once by White Sands, who passed Taos in the league standings.
In their lone victory, July 10, the Blizzard got 19 hits to beat Ratón 15-6. Andrew Azzopardi homered, scored twice and drove in two runs. Ryan Sonberg also homered and tripled in the victory, scoring three times and knocking in three other runs. Grant Glasser did well leading off for Taos, doubling, tripling and scoring three times in the game. Taylor Oldham and Evan Mansell each also scored twice and drove in runs in the win.
Offense, however, eluded the Blizzard in a few other games last week. Taos got shut out twice, both by a 2-0 score, by Ratón and White Sands.
On July 9, the Blizzard put 8 runs on the scoreboard with Mike Castellano and Chris Constantine each scoring a pair. Ratón, however, twice in the bottom of the ninth to come from behind and win the contest, 9-8.
The Blizzard will try and finish their season strong this week when they take on the Santa Fe Fuego four times. At noon Sunday (July 21) they’ll host the Fuego in the team’s last game in Taos. The Blizzard’s regular season will then come to an end after a two-game series at Roswell, Wednesday (July 24).
