James Brown, 43, of Peñasco, was arrested Oct. 3 and charged with multiple counts of molesting a minor.
The Río Arriba County Sheriff’s Office initiated the investigation, but recently requested that New Mexico State Police take over the case.
According to a state police press release Wednesday (Oct. 4), Brown has been charged with three counts of criminal sexual penetration in the first degree, kidnapping and assault with intent to commit a violent felony.
Evidence obtained during the investigation indicates that Brown had allegedly sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl “at least different times since March 2016,” according to the press release.
Brown was booked in the Taos County Adult Detention Center this month.
State police are continuing to investigate the allegations.
