A public meeting is scheduled for Wednesday (Nov. 29) for the Questa community to hear and about restoration projects associated with the Chevron-owned molybdenum mine.
The meeting is set for 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7688, located at 2597 State Road 522, Questa.
State and federal representatives will be on hand to answer questions about the "Draft Restoration Plan and Environmental Assessment" for the Chevron Questa Mine site, a 77-page document that "evaluates potential restoration projects that will restore, rehabilitate, replace or acquire the equivalent of groundwater and aquatic habitat resources that were injured by the release of hazardous substances from the [mine]," according to a press release from the New Mexico Office of Natural Resources Trustee.
A copy of the environmental assessment can be found at onrt.env.nm.gov/chevron-molycorp-mine/.
Public comments will be accepted until Dec. 18 and can be submitted in writing by fax at (505) 346-2542, by email at firstname.lastname@example.org, or by mail to the New Mexico Ecological Services Field Office, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, 2105 Osuna Rd NE, Albuquerque, 87113.
Emailed comments should include "Questa Mine Site RP/EA" in the subject line, as well as the commenter's name and mailing address.
