New Mexico Gas Company, the utility behind the pipeline reroute project, anticipates partial closures along State Road 68 in the Río Grande Gorge will begin next week, according to the company's spokesperson.
Work began near mile marker 30, which is north of Pilar, with crews preparing for excavation to lay the pipeline. They have been removing sage and other vegetation. Trucks have delivered the first 40-foot sections of the pipeline, which will eventually replace 6 miles of pipeline that is installed on the west side of the Río Grande.
