This is a letter written in response to an article published in last week's paper detailing the closing of an after school music program in the area.
That article caused some confusion among parents and students who have planned to attend another organization offering program-based after school music lessons, namely Taos Youth Music School. It is my hope as executive director of Taos Youth Music School this response will help clear up that confusion.
The Taos Youth Music School, a not-for-profit organization in Taos, is proud to announce our 13th season of service to Taos County youth.
An after-school music program, independent of the Taos Municipal School System, our mission is to provide children with low or no cost music lessons and performance opportunities.
Our talented, professional teachers are devoted to the belief that all children should have access to the potential benefits a musical education can provide.
Students attending Taos Youth Music School come to us from the public, private and home school sectors and reflect the ethnic and socio-economic diversity of Taos County.
To this date, 100 percent of our high school students have graduated or received their GED. Many have continued to college, majoring in music performance or music education
Taos Youth Music School currently offers six classes for K-12th grades, Monday through Thursdays, in space provided by long time supporter, St. James Episcopal Church.
We are also happy to announce that we are expanding programs this year in hopes to better serve our deserving Taos County youth population.
Taos Youth Music School invites any and all children grades K-12 in Taos County to come join us for a fun and exciting year!
Our registration deadline is Aug. 28.
To pre-register online or to find out more about this long-running local nonprofit visit www.taosyouthmusicschool.org or call me at (575) 776-3339.
¡Viva La Musica!
