Nancy Diamond is a woman that I will forever be grateful for. She awarded me with the Straight Ally Scholarship through PFLAG that will help pay my tuition at High Point University this fall.

At the PFLAG Award Ceremony this past May, Nancy gave a speech on how I share the same compassion and dedication as her mother. In fact, the money she generously donated for this scholarship is in remembrance of her. It touched my heart to know that Nancy observed the parallels between me and someone she loved dearly and admired for years.

I am grateful to know that Nancy sees my potential to succeed as a double major within the pre-medicine program. She filled me with confidence that I will change people’s lives. The confidence that she instilled in me will follow me throughout my journey at High Point, and beyond. It will fuel me to strive to be the best that I can be and more. She may not recognize it, but her encouraging words made a deep impression on my life. I am thankful for that.

Also, I am glad to know that for years to come other students will be awarded this scholarship due to Nancy’s kindness, and her compassion to help a student continue their education after high school. I want to thank Nancy for becoming such a big part of my life within a short amount of time; also, I want to thank PFLAG for the opportunity to apply for scholarships. You are all making a positive difference in student’s lives, and I feel blessed to have been one of them.
