The town of Taos announced it will close at 3 p.m. The closure includes the Taos Public Library, the visitor's center and Youth and Family Center. The closure also impacts early voting that was taking place at the town hall, according to the town's Facebook page.
The Taos Municipal School District announced schools will be closed today (Feb. 22) in two stages due to inclement weather. Secondary schools will be dismissed at 10:30 a.m. Elementary schools will close at 11:15 a.m.
University of New Mexico-Taos and Taos County also announced they will be closed today as well.
Questa Independent School District is closed today due to "inclement weather," according to its website (http://www.qisd-nm.schoolloop.com/).
While snow started falling Wednesday night and was still coming down across the Taos Valley on Thursday, buses are running on the usual schedule, according to the Taos Municipal Schools website.
Other Northern New Mexico schools – in Eagle Nest, Peñasco, Cimarrón, Moreno Valley and Los Alamos – are on a two-hour delay.
Snow is expected to continue through much of the day and the region is under a winter weather advisory from the National Weather Service as the storm makes its way northeast across the state.
At 6:30 a.m., Taos Ski Valley reported 5 inches of new snow and Angel Fire Ski Resort reported two inches of fresh powder.
