The area around Taos Plaza will soon be abloom in flower baskets that color the area into the fall season.
The 50-pound baskets on lampposts are from Bayfield Nursery in Bayfield, Colorado. The flowers are hardy, long-lasting and do not have to be deadheaded. The town of Taos procures the big baskets, and merchants are encouraged to purchase their own smaller baskets to enhance their business fronts.
David Mapes coordinated this project for the last few years. This year, Los Jardineros Garden Club of Taos will take over coordinating payment, picking up and delivering baskets.
Merchants can order as many baskets as they want. The sizes are a 10-inch basket for $26.96 or a 12-inch basket for $37.75. Both prices include tax. There is no charge for pickup and delivery, nor the flower food that is given as a gift with each basket. Marit McHugh will collect money for the baskets being purchased one week before they are picked up Friday (May 5). Checks should be made out to Los Jardineros Garden Club of Taos.
Baskets will be distributed in Taos Plaza upon return from Bayfield, around 4 p.m. on May 11. Each business is asked to come to Taos Plaza to pick up their baskets.
