The Taos Solar Music Festival roster gets kicked up a notch with the announcement this week that the two-day music event this summer will include Grammy Award-winners Lyle Lovett and Los Lobos.
Both acts join already-announced entertainers: The Del McCoury Band and perennial favorites Michael Franti & Spearhead.
This year’s Solar Fest takes place Saturday and Sunday (June 30-July 1) at Kit Carson Park, 211 Paseo del Pueblo Norte.
New Mexico bands can also compete for space in the line-up for the first time this year, in the Solar Fest’s New Mexico Band Search Contest.
“It’s a really good way for emerging bands to be seen by a lot of people and get their feet wet,” said Alan Vetter, a nine-year veteran of local band Vanilla Pop.
Vetter is running the contest and the rules are on his website, thevetteragency.com. A jury of music professionals will choose 10 videos, and the public will choose the winner via the Taos Solar Music Festival Facebook page.
Carpe diem, New Mexico musicians, as Taos Solar Fest co-director Dawn Richardson says next year’s contest will be open to bands nationwide. Visit the event website at www.solarmusicfest.com.
