Reports of a wildfire along US Highway 285 in the Tres Piedras area prompted a response by the Tres Piedras Volunteer Fire Department Sunday (March 19).
Dispatches indicated the fire began sometime around 1:45 p.m., covering approximately one-acre of wildland in an unspecified area of the unincorporated Taos County community.
Shortly after 2 p.m., reports said the fire had spread to two acres, and possibly a “structure with animals.”
By 2:20 p.m., reports indicated the fire was under control.
Tres Piedras lies about 30 miles northwest of the town of Taos, west of the Rio Grande Gorge, and consists of mainly dry sagebrush plain. Today’s high for the area is around 65 degrees, with winds up to 12 miles per hour.
