Field Institute of Taos, a longtime local nonprofit organization serving youth in Taos, has moved operations to the former Waldorf school property at 9 D. Ben Romero Road in El Prado.
The new Field Institute of Taos Base Camp will be the hub of nearly all operations and the jumping-off spot for adventures in the Taos area and beyond. One program, the drop-in FIT Neighborhood camp, will continue to operate at Quail Ridge Taos.
Field Institute of Taos has been providing outdoor education programs focused on active, outdoor, hands-on learning experiences since 1996. The organization focuses on outdoor skills and encourages a healthy, active lifestyle. Its current programs include community and school outreach, adventures after school hours, an all-ages and all-abilities cycling team, the high school mountain bike team and extensive summer camp offerings.
Programs will continue to bring kids into the surrounding mountains and onto the many public lands throughout the Taos area. Future activities will include expanded after-school adventures, family programs, community events, increased opportunities for local schools and more.
