The Taos County Sheriff’s Department said Friday that a body recovered from the Río Grande Gorge is likely that of a missing Colorado Springs man.
A statement from the sheriff's office said the body was recovered in the gorge on July 27 about 1.5 miles south of Highway 64. While the identity of the body has not been confirmed, the statement said it was probable that it is 31-year-old Christopher Zabka of Colorado Springs.
The body has been turned over to the Office of the Medical Investigator (OMI).
Zabka's car was found abandoned on July 9 at the Gorge Bridge. He was later listed as an “endangered/missing person.” Shortly after his car was found, his family found a suicide note written by Zabka.
