No worse for the wear – just a little wet behind the ears – Kissy the Labrador mix and her owner, Lisa Carver, smile after a bit of trouble close to the Taos Junction Bridge near Pilar Sunday (May 28). Kissy slipped and fell into the raging tributary just above the confluence of the Río Pueblo de Taos and the Río Grande and needed to be rescued from a midstream rock island, where she managed to exit the torrent. Kissy resisted the impulse to jump back into the water and make it to the bank on her own. A pair of heroes from the Taos Fire Department pulled Kissy to safety after a nearly three-hour ordeal. A crowd of concerned onlookers cheered as Carver and Kissy were reunited – on dry land.
