The Taos Police Department is reporting that one man has died as a result of a two-vehicle accident that occurred Saturday evening.

Taos Police Cheif Ken Koch says Anthony J. Gutierrez, 67, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which happened at the corner of Salazar Road and Camino de la Merced at around 8 p.m. Saturday (March 23).

Gutierrez was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Peter Mondragon, who sustained "significant injuries" in the crash, Koch said.

The driver of the other vehicle, Gareth Harrold, was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide, causing serious bodily injury with a vehicle, and driving while intoxicated, Koch said. Harrold is being held at the Taos County Adult Detention Center.

Koch said Mondragon is being investigated for driving while intoxicated.

Koch said the details of the accident were still under investigation.
