Colfax County Sheriff's Office investigating abandoned car

By Chandra Johnson

The Colfax County Sheriff's Office is investigating an abandoned car found late Sunday night  (Sept. 28) between Angel Fire and Black Lake covered with blood.

Colfax Undersheriff Steve Marquez said the car was registered to a Taos man and that his office planned to interview him Tuesday (Sept. 30).

"Right now we don't know if it is animal or human blood," Marquez said Monday (Sept. 29).

According to Marquez and police call logs, the car was found on State Road 434 between Angel Fire and Black Lake and that the front of it was covered in an unidentified type of blood. The log said that witnesses told the sheriff's office that they had seen two men in the vehicle who "seemed upset."

Taos Police Department Lt. David Maggio said Monday that officers had also spoken with the owner of the car.

"He told us that he and a friend got two flat tires up there and hitched back to town," Maggio said. "He said he didn't know anything about blood."

The case continues to be investigated by the Colfax County Sheriff's Office.

" Well, I suppose now they'll get a bunch of rabid people with guns to go out and try to kill the car. "
